When Visiting this property – I had to sign a disclaimer – Yep a disclaimer! There were holes in the floor, not just in one spot but everywhere. You couldn’t walk in the bathroom and a gaping hole in front of the toilet – not sure how the old man that lived there coped?!
What was great about this property was it’s character and bones – The old Queenslanders were hardwood frame with solid VJ walls – built for the elements and to stand the test of time. The high ceilings and decorative features that were standard back then would cost a fortune to include in today’s houses and yes if you want to add a bit of bling back into these houses it’s not cheap
What wasn’t so great about this property was the amount of trees that had overtaken the yard – unfortunately they all had to go but we did replant. The gentleman had been a hoarder and a smoker which meant the clean up was a huge job. Vermin and white ants had damaged the back walls of the house but luckily only the interior VJ’s. Lastly the Roof had to be replaced.
We turned the sunroom into a walk in robe and ensuite for the main bedroom, a much sort after feature in today’s homes. the back room and bathroom floors were beyond repair but we selvedged what we could to reuse in the dining area. We moved the kitchen into the old formal dining room to create a more open plan feel with access to a new deck, and the old kitchen became a bedroom
On the outside we chopped and ground all the trees – replaced them with gardens around the edge to give privacy but have a usable space in the backyard.
